Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan signals a major shift in chipmaking strategy, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella addresses job cuts amid AI investments, and Walmart showcases AI agents in retail. Plus, GPT-5 launch and Elad Gil's $1.5B fund.

Intel's new CEO Lip-Bu Tan made waves during the Q2 earnings call by declaring, "I do not subscribe to the belief that if you build it, they will come." Tan's comments suggest Intel may abandon its traditional role as a leading-edge chipmaker, focusing instead on profitable investments in its 14A process node. This could mark a seismic shift for the company that pioneered Moore's Law, potentially ceding advanced chip production to TSMC. Analysts speculate Tan's remarks may be a gambit for U.S. government support.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella addressed the company's contradictory position in a memo: booming AI investments and record profits coexist with 15,000 layoffs (7% of its workforce). Nadella framed this as the "enigma of success in an industry that has no franchise value," emphasizing the dynamic nature of tech progress. The company's AI-driven capital expenditures are at historic highs, even as headcount remains flat due to cuts.

Walmart showcased its "super agents" at a New York event, including an upgraded Sparky assistant that can auto-order weekly essentials. While executives insist "It’s not vaporware," skepticism remains about real-world deployment timelines. The retail giant also highlighted internal AI tools aimed at streamlining employee tasks.
