Phoebe AI raises 17M for software bug detection system
Phoebe an AI startup founded by ex Stripe executives secures 17M in seed funding led by GV and Cherry Ventures to reduce software glitch remediation time
An AI startup named Phoebe, which positions itself as an 'immune system' for software, has successfully raised $17 million (£12.6 million) in its initial funding round. The investment was led by GV (formerly Google Ventures) and Cherry Ventures, marking one of the largest seed funding rounds for a UK-based company this year.
Founding Team and Vision
Founded by Matt Henderson and James Summerfield, former executives at Stripe Europe, Phoebe leverages AI agents to continuously monitor and address software glitches in real-time. The duo previously sold their first startup, Rangespan, to Google a decade ago.
Henderson highlighted the significant productivity drain caused by software bugs, stating that developers spend up to 30% of their time resolving these issues. According to Phoebe, global financial losses from software outages reached $400 billion last year.
How Phoebe Works
Phoebe's AI agents analyze siloed data to identify and resolve errors, reducing remediation time by up to 90%. The platform aims to provide a more intelligent alternative to traditional monitoring tools, which often require extensive manual intervention.
"High-severity incidents can make or break big customer relationships, and numerous smaller problems drain engineering productivity," Henderson said.
Investor Confidence
The backing from high-profile investors underscores growing interest in AI-driven software reliability solutions. Roni Hiranand of GV commented:
"AI has transformed how code is written, but software reliability has not kept pace. Phoebe is building a missing layer of contextual intelligence that can help both human and AI engineers avoid software failures." "We love the boldness of the team's vision for a software immune system that pre-emptively fixes problems."
Early Adoption and Impact
Phoebe has already onboarded clients like Trainline, the rail booking app. Jay Davies, Trainline’s Head of Engineering for Reliability and Operations, reported:
"Phoebe has already had a real impact on how we investigate and remediate incidents. Work that used to take us hours to piece together can now take minutes, and that matters when you're running critical services at our scale."
Future Plans
The funding will support the public launch of Phoebe’s platform, with an official announcement expected this . The company aims to revolutionize software reliability by integrating AI into the remediation process.
