Elon Musk's xAI Files Trademark for Macrohard AI Software Company
Elon Musk's xAI has filed a trademark for the name Macrohard, signaling plans to launch a new AI-based software company. The move follows Musk's hints about creating a multi-agent AI software firm.
Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company, xAI, has officially filed a trademark for the name "Macrohard", confirming earlier hints that Musk was considering launching a new AI-based software firm. The trademark was filed on August 1st and is owned by xAI LLC, which paid $2,300 for two classes of the trademark.
Musk's Vision for Macrohard
In a July 14th post on X, Musk outlined his vision for the new company, describing it as a "multi-agent AI software" venture where Grok, xAI's AI model, would spawn hundreds of specialized coding and image/video generation agents. These agents would work collaboratively, with AI emulating human interactions in virtual machines to refine the software iteratively.
"This is a macro challenge and a hard problem with stiff competition! Can you guess the name of this company?" Musk had teased.
When a user guessed "Macrohard" in the comments, Musk responded with a winking emoji, hinting at the playful jab at Microsoft.
A Nod to Musk's Rivalry with Bill Gates
The name Macrohard is a clear parody of Microsoft, reflecting Musk's long-standing feud with Bill Gates. Their rivalry began when Musk discovered Gates had shorted Tesla stock. Musk has since criticized Gates publicly, including:
- Calling him a "huge liar" over Gates' claims about DOGE cryptocurrency (source).
- Accusing Gates of funding negative press about him (source).
- Mocking Gates' physique and highlighting his ties to Jeffrey Epstein (source).
What’s Next for Macrohard?
The trademark filing suggests Musk is serious about creating an AI-first competitor to Microsoft, leveraging xAI's Grok model to automate software development. If successful, Macrohard could disrupt the traditional software industry by relying heavily on AI-generated code and self-improving agents.
