New data from Jellyfish shows a rapid increase in companies using AI tools that independently handle coding tasks, moving beyond assistive AI.

Microsoft CTO Kevin Scott talks about the growth of AI agent use at the Build 2025 developer conference.

New data from Jellyfish, a software engineering management service, reveals a sharp rise in corporate adoption of agentic AI tools for coding tasks. These tools go beyond mere suggestions, performing actions like reviewing, authoring, and submitting code independently.

Key Findings

  • 82% of companies now use agentic AI for coding tasks, up from just over 50% at the start of 2025.
  • AI-powered code reviews saw even faster growth, jumping from 39% in January to 76% in May.
  • Only 8% of companies are piloting fully agentic coding workflows, where AI writes and submits code without human intervention.

Popular Tools

  • GitHub Copilot Reviewer, Cursor BugBot, and CodeRabbit lead the market for AI code reviews.
  • Emerging tools like Graphite and Greptile are gaining traction.

Challenges Ahead

Despite the rapid growth, full automation of coding workflows remains rare. Only a small fraction of companies have embraced fully agentic systems, highlighting the technical and trust barriers that still exist.
