Capgemini Research Institute predicts AI agents will join human teams within three years, but organizations must address workforce anxiety and restructuring challenges.

Despite widespread concerns about AI agents displacing jobs, Capgemini Research Institute's latest report reveals that organizations expect AI agents to become integral team members within three years. The study found that 61% of organizations face rising employee anxiety about AI's impact on employment, yet few are prioritizing re-skilling or restructuring.

The Rise of Human-Agent Teams

Over 60% of organizations anticipate deploying human-agent teams within 12 months, with AI initially serving as tools or enhancements. In 1-3 years, AI agents are expected to evolve into team members under human supervision. Itai Asseo, Head of Incubation and Brand Strategy (AI Research) at Salesforce, noted:

"Human-AI interaction patterns are still taking shape... The sooner humans can intuitively interact with AI agents, the faster adoption will be."

Steven Webb, Capgemini’s UK CTO, emphasized the need for clear task orientation and cultural adaptation. Capgemini is already using agentic AI in software engineering, achieving significant productivity gains—for example, reducing a six-month retail app development task to two weeks.

Organizational Restructuring and Metrics

70% of organizations believe AI agents will require restructuring, yet skill development and restructuring are not top priorities. The report recommends:

  • Creating AI resource management teams to oversee intelligent resources.
  • Developing platforms to track agent capabilities and reduce redundancy.
  • Introducing joint productivity metrics for human-agent teams.

Soft skills like collaboration, emotional intelligence, and ethical judgment will be critical for human staff working alongside AI.

Key Takeaways

  • Organizations are underprepared for the imminent integration of AI agents into teams.
  • New roles, such as VP Human-Agent Resources, may emerge to manage hybrid teams.
  • Capgemini's acquisition of WNS signals a strategic shift toward human-agent collaboration.

The report underscores the urgency for businesses to adapt to this transformative shift in workforce dynamics.
