Bosch invests 2.5 billion euros in AI agent technology by 2027
Bosch announces a 2.5 billion euro investment in AI agent technology by 2027, focusing on automated driving, manufacturing, and consumer products to enhance innovation and efficiency.
Bosch, one of the world's largest industrial conglomerates, has announced plans to invest over €2.5 billion in artificial intelligence (AI) by the end of 2027. The company aims to leverage AI to drive innovation across its products and services, including automated driving, manufacturing, and consumer electronics.
Key Investment Areas
-
Automated Driving: Bosch is using AI to enhance vehicle safety and development efficiency. AI helps visualize surroundings, predict road user behavior, and plan routes. The company expects its sales in software, sensors, and high-performance computing to double to over €10 billion by the mid-2030s.
-
Manufacturing: Bosch is pioneering AI agents (or "agentic AI") in manufacturing. These agents can make independent decisions and optimize processes like maintenance and personnel scheduling. The company plans to launch a platform by fall 2025 to help other businesses implement multi-agent systems with minimal programming.
-
Consumer Products: AI is integrated into Bosch's consumer offerings, such as the Revol crib (monitoring vital signs), e-bikes (range anxiety solutions), and smart ovens (automatic cooking settings).
Bosch's AI Leadership
Bosch has filed 1,500+ AI-related patents in the past five years, positioning itself as a leader in Europe. The company also runs an AI Academy, training over 65,000 associates since 2019, and employs nearly 5,000 AI specialists.
"The breakthroughs in AI make it possible to open up completely new chapters in technology," said Stefan Hartung, Bosch's chairman. "A society without AI capabilities will fall behind in global competition."
Public Perception
According to the Bosch Tech Compass, 80% of respondents worldwide plan to pursue AI training, and 72% in Germany believe AI will dominate the next decade. Bosch is well-positioned to lead this transformation.
