Solo.io Unveils Open Source Agent Gateway and Agent Mesh for AI Integration
Solo.io has introduced Agent Gateway, an open source data plane designed for seamless AI agent connectivity across environments, featuring security, observability, and support for protocols like A2A and MCP.
Cloud native application networking company Solo.io has announced the release of Agent Gateway, an open source data plane optimized for agentic AI connectivity. This innovation aims to simplify AI agent deployment by providing built-in security, observability, and governance for agent-to-agent and agent-to-tool communication. The platform supports leading protocols such as Agent2Agent (A2A) and Model Context Protocol (MCP).
Addressing Fragmentation in AI Agent Development
Organizations often struggle with fragmented protocols, teams, and environments when deploying AI agents. Agent Gateway offers a unified data plane that supports A2A and MCP while automatically integrating existing REST APIs as agent-native tools. A built-in developer portal provides a centralized interface for discovering, configuring, and monitoring agent interactions. The solution is compatible with popular frameworks like LangGraph, AutoGen, and Claude Desktop, and can run across various environments, including Kubernetes, containers, and bare metal.
Introducing Agent Mesh for Scalable AI Architectures
As AI agents evolve, smaller, task-specific agents are proving more effective than monolithic designs. Drawing parallels to microservices and service mesh architectures, Solo.io introduces Agent Mesh to address cross-cutting concerns like security, observability, and governance. Built on the open source foundations of kgateway and Ambient Mesh, Agent Mesh supports AI use cases such as LLM consumption, inferencing, and tool calling.
Key Features of Agent Mesh:
- Secure-by-default architecture with agent identity and mutual TLS (mTLS).
- Multitenant access controls for agents and tools across teams.
- Standardized connectivity via A2A and MCP, with REST API integration.
- Centralized telemetry for metrics, tracing, and logging.
- Self-service developer portal for debugging and observability.
Industry Perspectives
Idit Levine, founder and CEO of Solo.io, emphasized the importance of future-proofing AI applications: "Agentic AI is transforming how organizations build applications, but long-term success requires infrastructure that adapts to rapid changes. Agent Mesh combines industry standards with open source innovation to deliver a comprehensive connectivity stack."
With Agent Gateway and Agent Mesh, Solo.io aims to streamline AI agent deployment while ensuring interoperability across diverse frameworks and environments.
