Key Features of Kira's AI Platform
- Automated grading and lesson planning to save teachers time
- Classroom discussion analysis to identify struggling students
- One-on-one AI tutoring with adaptive learning capabilities
- Knowledge mapping to track student understanding across subjects
"AI is helping redefine what it means to be a great teacher," Ng told Business Insider. "With the workforce changing rapidly, teachers often need to teach subjects outside their expertise."
From Computer Science to Comprehensive Learning
Kira launched in 2021 focusing on computer science education, partnering with Tennessee to implement its platform statewide. The company has since expanded to hundreds of school districts nationwide.

Addressing Education Challenges
CEO Andrea Pasinetti explained the platform introduces "productive friction" in student-AI interactions to ensure actual learning occurs, rather than just quick answers. The system:
- Guides students incrementally through problems
- Adapts to individual comprehension levels
- Provides teachers with detailed student progress reports
The Future of AI in Education
As schools increasingly adopt:
- Adaptive learning technologies
- Learning management systems (LMS) Kira positions itself as a comprehensive solution that can replace multiple expensive software packages.
"This represents a fundamental shift in education," said VP of AI Jagriti Agarwal. "Teachers can learn alongside students when teaching new subjects."
